A huge
best seller. Written and narrated by John Keith, and with months of
painstaking audio production by ourselves, this great double album
continues to sell at leading retail outlets in the U.K. and abroad.
John compiled Shankly interviews over many years of travelling with
the team as sports writer for the Daily Express. He knew Shankly
well, as is obvious from these interviews, and certainly won the
respect of the great manager. Tape One carries the life story of the
proud Scotsman, from pithead to captaining Scotland. His varied
management career was topped by his enormous success on Merseyside.
It was the love affair between Shankly and the people of Liverpool
that propelled the team to unparalleled heights. His brusque manner
and shameless bravado was the ideal front for a man bent on winning
at all
costs. He made countless innovations, including being the first
manager to pick his own team, and his humorous recollections are
always razor-sharp. Tape Two carries complete and exclusive
interviews.

Alex Ferguson won
One European Cup in 18 years and is referred to by some as 'the
greatest manager ever'. Bob Paisley won 19 trophies in 9 years
including 3 European Cups and is without question the greatest and
most successful football manager of all time. Bob, the
quietly-spoken fierce-tackling half-back from Durham
came to Liverpool in 1949 and was an important part of the team. He
specialised in the long throw-in and was a model professional, but only gained England
'B' honours. A former 'Desert Rat' during World War Two, he turned
into a ruthless manager who was not
afraid to drop star players in the interests of the club. His
tactical awareness was way ahead of its time and was the basis for
much that Bill Shankly achieved. His work as a physiotherapist was
so celebrated that people even brought him wild animals to
cure. A quiet and modest man who loved a flutter on the horses, he
returned home with his first European Cup to tell his wife 'Put the
kettle on, love!' John Keith has again assembled a collection of
interviews with Bob and his contemporaries that is without equal. He
tells the story with an expertise and fund of detail that no other
Journalist or Broadcaster could match - and also takes us through
the history of the club during Bob's time there. His hardback book
'Paisley - Manager of The Millennium' is a best-seller.
These audio albums
are full of sporting history, the music of the times, personal
recollections and humour from Paisley and his world-beating players.

SHANKLY -
THE VOICE OF FOOTBALL
|
|
Vol.1 MS CD.355 Single Cassette/Dble
Case CLP.357 |
|
In his last
recorded interviews in 1981, the year he died, Shankly gives
unexpurgated opinions of many of the problems and successes of his Liverpool management career. In this volume he talks to David
McDermott about why he resigned, rivalry with Everton, and a
marvellous anecdote about an avid fan who wanted to be buried in the
Kop goal. As well as the humour there are serious points to be made
and his view on injuries and warming down should be a part of every
football manager's armoury. He talks about building a side that
could escape from the Second Division and survive. When he signed
Yeats and St. John, supported by board member, Mr Sawyer, they never
looked back and the roller-coaster ride to success followed. People
forget that Shankly first took the Reds into Liverpool
and made them change their style to compete with the foreign
systems. In addition to major domestic trophies, he won the EUFA Cup
in 1973 as well as Manager of The Year. 65 mins |

THE VOICE OF FOOTBALL

Vol.2 MS CD.356 Single Cassette/Double Case CLP.358 |

In
the final section, Shankly talks about the 1965 Cup Final, and has a
great tale about one of the Leeds players.
He also talks about
Lawler, the full-back who played in the Final for 2 hours with a
broken collar-bone. This was his type of player - a man with
courage. He refers to other 'hard men' like Tommy Smith and regrets
not signing Bremner, Collins, Hunter and Ball. What a midfield they
would have made - they could have started World War 3!
He talks about his
favourite players - Finney, Puskas, Di Stefano & Pele. He talks
about the changing of the team - when he had to axe many of his
original signings. Being fiercely loyal to his men, this was
something he hated to do. He concludes with some worthwhile advice
to all youngsters trying to forge a playing career, and every word
of these absorbing interviews will be enjoyed by anyone who ever
watched a game of football. Expertly interviewed by David McDermott.

Under
the guidance of Gerard Houllier, the blossoming of the Liverpool
side is becoming a success story that is confounding everybody in
the game. Late in the 2000-2001 season, something clicked and they
went on to scoop all the cup silverware on show.
The
devastating form of Owen, the rampant midfield and the solid defence
ensured that for the first time in 17 years the Reds are back in
Europe. They also completed the double over Everton AND Manchester
United. Enjoy this entertaining and exciting review of the season
from the BBC Radio Merseyside sports team, fronted by Ian Kennedy.
