Here is a comprehensive analysis of the 'light blues' over the past
ten years. In season 1999-2000 they achieved the unthinkable and
finally made it back up to the top flight, to face their life-long
adversaries - Man United. Joe Royle's management style won them
another promotion with a classy season at the top of the second
division. Automatic promotion was gained at the expense of Blackburn
Rovers, with a thumping 4-1 away victory and this match is amply
covered by Any Buckley and Eddie McGoldrick. The team from BBC GMR
also take a look back at the long-running boardroom battles between
Peter Swales and Francis Lee. It chronicles Howard Kendall's
dramatic departure and the Peter Reid era that followed. When the
team sunk to the depths of the 3rd division, the board wisely turned
to a man with track record of miraculous escapes - Joe Royle.
With the support of the legendary Maine Road choir, he duly led them
all the way back up the ladder again.

Here is a joyful tape for Saddlers fans - a rare celebration of
perhaps their greatest achievement to date. When they faced Reading
in the Division Two play-off final, nobody gave them much of a
chance of making it up to the First Division. Manager Ray Graydon,
plus star players Don Goodman and Darren Byfield had other ideas as
the Cardiff Millennium Stadium resounded to Black Country delight on
27th May 2001. Malcolm Boyden and the BBC West Midlands sports team
have put together an amusing and informative souvenir of a great
occasion for the followers of Walsall Town F.C.
